Hi Brett! Glad to hear that your trip is going well, it's fun to read your stories. You must be in great shape now. We have been back into riding this summer, the fitness feels good. We have sort of been training just so we could take our World Cup racer friends, Mike Broderick and Mary McConneloug (mountain bike olympian), on some good trail rides. They came to visit on their way down from Canada.

I hope we get to ride together sometime. Good luck on the rest of your trip and have a great time at the juggling festival. I look forward to your journal entries!

Cheers! Aunt Marilyn

Hi Brett.... I've been checking in to see how you are doing and I'm glad you are safe! I cannot imagine how tired you must be. Hopefully the weather has cooperated the past few days. It sounds like you have some trouble with your bike. You are now in another area I'm somewhat familiar with as we lived in the DC area for 4 years. I hope you enjoy your visit and rest up before starting out again. : Brett says: Yes, I had a great time visiting with an old friend and seeing a few D.C. sights! Lois still reading............

Hi Brett! I really enjoyed reading about your adventures, plus catching up Lois through her comments! Lois, I had a high school friend who grew up in Bristol. It looks like I need to start Three Cups of Tea. Carolyn loved it and gave it to all her paras, right? : Brett says: Yes.I downloaded an audible version to listen to while I knit. It's been too hot to knit though! I can't imagine riding a bike with the heat earlier this week. I'm cleaning closets today. Your entries have made an enjoyable break. Happy pedaling! Stay safe! And I hope you don't break any more spokes!

Hi Brett, Sorry to have missed coming with you and Dan this AM, but Dad is home now, and very happy to be here. Uncle Don hopes you will stop there. Said he'd love to feed and house you on your way. Thinking of you and sending hugs, Love, Mom

So what are you doing re: the spoke? Riding without it? The suspense is killing me! How's the weather? Hot here. : Brett says: Yes, it's been very hot on the road, too!

Love and hugs, Mom

Hey Brett - Glad to be able to follow along during your adventure. It was great having you as a neighbor and Sandy and I look forward to a face-to-face sometime after your return. : Brett says: I'm sad to lose you guys as neighbors. I'll see what I can do to visit! Safe travels and warm memories... Dan Sundquist

Brett, After leaving you a short note, I read all your entries. WOW!!!! I have to tell you that you may think "Barkhamstead" is a funny name but I know the place well. That's where we spent senior skip day!!! By the route numbers, did you travel through Avon/Farminton area? : Brett says: I may have been close, but I didn't go through either of those towns. Check the map for my route: http://tinyurl.com/2qp9os I grew up not far from there, Bristol. I used to travel 10/202 to get to Holyoke. I'm glad you are out of the heat. We still have it here. Take care..........Lois

I hope you are having a great trip Brett. Have fun, be safe!!!

Brett Brett Brett! That's craziness about the spoke! Good thing you have the spares; I bet it was just a weak one, and now the fittest are surviving. You could wire the old spoke to the top of your flag as a lightning rod, maybe, to protect your noggin ;)

They've been talking in the news lately about the tremendous thunderstorms that have been rolling through New York lately. Last week or so, a storm dumped 8 inches of in the western Catskills; a 100-year storm if it happened in 24 hours, but this rain fell in like an hour. That's probable maximum flood territory!

It sounds like you've met some characters so far; excellent! Have you Cosmic Wimpout in your big yellow bag? : Brett says: No, no games, crazy as that is. I'll be alone most of the time, so games didn't seem to make sense.

That area near Kingston, New York that you mentioned is near where I worked several summers ago; I started out near the Rondout Reservoir, which discharges to Rondout Creek/Rondout River, which passes near the Ashokan Reservoir, where I spent most of my time. That is such a beautiful country! It's almost too bad that you couldn't linger, but I'm sure there is plenty ahead as well! : Brett says: I wondered if somewhere near there was the territory you covered that summer!

I wish you continued good luck on your ride! Darleen and I will be passing near you on our way to New Jersey this evening. I'm looking forward to catching up on your travels when we return! Take care, Brett!

Hey Brett! So excited to read about your trip through the Hudson Valley. It took me back to the pre-kid days when Mark and I used to hang out in New Paltz. : Brett says: Yeah, the stone houses were amazing, and the town had a great feel, even though I did no more than toucht the bottom of the hill on the outskirts.

Keep on biking! Stay safe!

I'm reading Three Cups of Tea as well Brett. Where are you in the book? : Brett says: Greg Sahib just climbed up on the truck loaded with stuff and headed out of the city. I hope you get the spokes fixed and don't have any more problems with them. : Brett says: Yep, the spokes are fixed. I am off to VT for a couple of days........looking forward to seeing where you are and how you are doing when I return.

Hi Brett, Hope you are enjoying the same perfect biking weather as we have here. It was great to see the photo taken by Jason's wife, Ruth. Dad's starting to feel a lot better. Vacation's over for me, back to work tomorrow. Ms. J says "Hi!". Love and hugs, Mom

Hi Brett, Dan just wrote and asked me if I'd checked on your biking adventure and I hadn't read it all. I just finished reading up to your last post. I'm envious. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time even w/ups and downs. I can picture everything very clearly so I feel as tho I am riding along. Great to see your picture. It's been too quiet across the way. I miss your laugh. Keep on trekking. Be glad to hear that you arrive safely. Sandy S.

Hey hey!

Hope your and your bike are well! I am with child to find out if all is OK, what happened, and how it turned out!

Darleen and I spent a weekend last fall in New Hope, PA, and Lambertville, NJ (right across the river), for one of her friend's weddings. It's a fantastic area, somewhat like Northampton.

On that trip, I was stopped at a rail road crossing. Instead of a lumbering frieght or aluminum-clad commuter passenger trail, an honest-to-goodness steam engine crossed the road, pulling passenger cars, as Brett mentioned. A passer-by had to remove my lower jaw from the ground and rehinge it before I could get going again.

Brett, I'm thinking of you and sending lots of happy thoughts your way. I miss you. Love, Jenny

Hi Brett, I'm at work checking on the latest. Judy is planning your next trip already...she'd like to hear about Oregon! I'm thinking you're not in a place to be making such plans yet... I'd go with you but you might have to give me a tow up the Rockies! Almost there! Hope your "day of rest" is restorative. You're my hero! Love, Mom

*** Yay!!!! Congratulations Brett!! :-) Thanks so much for your postcard!

Yay, Brett! Really narrowing the distance to the end now! By the time you see this, you will probably have finished the Friday-the-thirteenth stage just a stone's throw from Winston-Salem (unless you are taking a break in a library somewhere). You're doing great! Love and hugs, Mom

***

Congratulations Brett! This is awesome. I'm so glad you were able to make it the distance in one piece. Yes, the bike is another story. This is quite an accomplishment. I can stop worrying now. Love from Delaware, Aunt Jill

Congratulations, Brett! Enjoy North Carolina and the juggling festival! Dan B.

I just caught up on your adventures Brett. I've been out of town (NYC) and unlike you, didn't go to a library to check emails, etc. I was thinking of you and told Bill that I wanted to see how you were doing as I thought the festival was starting on/about the 16th. I'm so happy that you made it to your destination safe and sound. Have a wonderful time at the festival. I'm in awe of what you accomplished!!! Take care............Lois
