Accounts of Random Rides
On one trip during the summer, Dan Buttrick and I ended up in some place we didn't know on our bicycles. We rode 102.3 miles from Amherst, MA where Dan resided, North to Keene, NH, West across the Connecticut River to Brattleboro, VT, and South to Amherst again. Upon return, I collapsed in the grass. Dan was physically OK, but when he went out for dinner and mini-golf later, he had a hard time remembering his name and repeatedly got lost in the restaurant.
**February 18, 2005** Tonight I rode 7.5 miles to a contra dance, in the freezing cold and beautiful night. Then I danced barefoot for a couple hours. The ride home was even more beautiful, and probably colder, but I didn't notice. I didn't dress in "biker" fashion, but rather in a winter jacket, winter boots, pants with biking tights underneath. I was almost too warm. I'd never seen a shooting star on a bike ride before, so I was thrilled when a very nice one shot down toward the horizon.
